I was being transported to work this morning by a bus. Everything was fine and dandy from the the time I woke up until I stepped into that green bus which I personally prefer more than any other bus lines.
I was with my friend. Seated next to her by the window side, I felt dizzy watching the ‘The Avengers’ from a TV monitor mounted on top of the vehicle’s dashboard. But then I realized it was because of the bus driver’s ‘very skillful’ driving moves that I was almost on the verge of throwing up right from where I was seated. Shunning the thought of reprimanding the driver, I tried not to look at the TV monitor anymore. Instead, I looked out the window in search of anything to clear out my dizziness.
A motor bike slowly passed by the side of the bus while the latter was making a turn into a street. I saw the face of the driver of the bike; he was trying to be careful not to veer the bike too closely to the side of the bus. Then suddenly, like an earthworm being sprinkled by the deadly table salt, the bus made its quick turn. I got scared because I heard someone scream from outside the bus.
That incident haunted me until my friend and I were about to step out of the bus. (And I still had good thoughts about the bus driver then.)
When my friend was beside the door, just waiting for other vehicles to pass by before she could finally step out of the bus, the bus driver told her, “Hihintayin mo pa ‘atang dumaan lahat ng sasakyan bago ka bumaba.’ Still keeping my calm, I just looked at him. That was when I saw ‘the face’. When it was my turn to step out, the door suddenly flipped open , imprisoning me right there at the last step of the bus. I looked at ‘the face’ again but this time really memorizing each line, hue, texture, size, and depth of it.
I will never forget ‘that face’.
(I think it’s also wise not to ride in that green bus ever again.)
